Liz Whiteacre’s Bio

Ball State Head ShotI’ve worked with students in creative writing, writing for publication, composition, literature, and technical writing classes at the University of Indianapolis, Ball State University, College of DuPage, Southern Illinois University, the Indianapolis Chinese Community Center, and the Indiana Writer’s Center, and I have been an editor for literary magazines and the University of Indianapolis Press. I currently teach writing at UIndy. You can learn more about my poetry at

My poetry has appeared in Wordgathering, Disability Studies Quarterly, Breath and Shadow, Disabled World, and other literary magazines. In my chapbook, Hit the Ground (2013), I explore my experiences with a spinal injury that dramatically changed my world—in the time it took to hit the ground. If you’re interested in learning more, please visit I also worked with Lyn Jones to edit an anthology of mothers who write and create art about parenting their children with special needs.       I will be teaching Prompting Poetry again on Saturday, September 28th from 1-4 pm, and it would be wonderful to have you join us. We’ll be doing some new prompts, so I hope you’ll bring the friend who told you such nice things about the August class.
